Our Sources
Transparency is key. We rely on credible, authoritative sources to build our nutrition database.
Primary Data Sources
The core of our calculator engine is built upon data from the most reliable authorities in food science.
Moe's Official Nutrition Guide
The primary source for restaurant-specific menu item data.
USDA FoodData Central
Used for calculating generic ingredient profiles (e.g., raw produce, unseasoned grains).
Scientific Literature
Our health guides and blog articles reference peer-reviewed journals to ensure metabolic advice is accurate. Common sources include:
- The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition
- Journal of the International Society of Sports Nutrition
- National Institutes of Health (NIH)
Updates & Methodology
When a discrepancy exists between official restaurant data and USDA standards, we default to the restaurant's official publication as it accounts for specific preparation methods (e.g., cooking oils, marinades). We timestamp our database updates to reflect the version of the menu being analyzed.
